Linux command line basics for beginners (and hackers!)

Our regular event is back; a guided exploration of the Linux server command line.

Aimed at absolute beginners. We'll show how to securely connect to a server then we'll work through Bandit, an adventure game set in the command line that progresses step-by-step from the basics to common programs and beyond.

This will be an in-person event in the quiet lounge of the newly open The Gamer Club, on Bath Lane next door to The Buff Club.

I'll work through the challenges on the big screen and explain what I'm doing as well all work together though the levels. Join in and play along or feel free to work on your own thing (setting up a server, coding etc) and someone there should be able to assist you if needed.

Get started and read more on our wiki page at command_line

As always, remember to check out our open source chatroom on Matrix at #opensource:glasgow.social (sign up at https://glasgow.social/matrix if you don't have your own homeserver).

Note: The venue is unlicenced, but you are welcome to bring your own beers/wine and there is free tea and coffees! See https://www.thegamerclub.co.uk/gettinghere for directions.

What do I need?

Bring a laptop to get the most out of this event. There are free teas and coffees, but you are welcome to bring beer/wine or whatever you want to drink.

Where is it?

In The Gamer Club, see getting here for directions.

When is it?

Usually the first Monday of the month from 6pm. You don't have to RSVP, but you can see any of our upcoming events on our Meetup events page.

What does it cost?

The event is completely free, but there will be a donation tin to cover the meetup costs if you'd like to help out.
